Tasty treats for ravenous roller derby fans

The nation’s favourite pie maker has teamed up with the Tiger Bay Brawlers to feed hungry roller derby fans during half time at Saturday’s bout against Helsinki Roller Derby.

Winning a Peter’s hamper brimming with the bakery’s most popular pastries will be a half time ‘pie-light’ for three lucky spectators at Saturday’s showdown, where three tweeters will be rewarded for the best tweets on which Tiger Bay Brawler they would most like to share their pie with.

Starting from Wednesday 4th December, all #brawlerpete tweets will be considered, with the three best ones being announced at Saturday’s game.

Two teams of five play the contact sport, with players roller skating around an oval track in a series of two minute ‘jams’ between the two teams. Each side nominates a point scoring skater, who wins points for every time they lap an opposing skater.

The Tiger Bay Brawlers’ profile has grown since the team formed three years ago with them featuring on the Extreme Sports Channel, becoming one of the UK’s top teams and becoming a full member of The Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA), making them now eligible to compete worldwide.

Allie Brock from the Brawlers, who are fourth in Europe’s unofficial rankings, said: “A roller derby bout is always an adrenalin-packed and exciting event, but Peter’s halftime giveaway will really add to the anticipation and spectator experience.

“We will be moving into our own venue at Cardiff Roller Arena very soon, and hope that a dedicated home ground will really boost the popularity of our sport. Teaming up with big name Welsh brands like Peter’s is great for our team and for roller derby.”

Claire Conway, Marketing Manager at Peter’s is thrilled to be offering her support to the grassroots team, which narrowly lost out on its first European sanctioned win by just three points earlier this year.

Claire said: “Roller Derby is a thrilling game and having fun with the fans of Welsh sport is something we really enjoy at Peter’s.

“Fans are crucial to any Welsh team and we always try and reward them in whatever way we can – re-fuelling on Peter’s pastries at halftime is always a popular option! So get behind the girls this weekend, as I promise you they are really going places. Get tweeting with #brawlerpete as we’re really looking forward to hearing from you.”
