Peter’s Premier Slice winner drives home brand new Hyundai!

A Stramshall man has won a brand new car after entering a prize draw with Wales’s premier pie maker Peter’s Pies.

53-year-old Alan Sanbrooke is now the proud owner of a brand new Hyundai i20 after entering the prize draw with Peter’s Premier Slices.

Alan bought four Peter’s Firecracker Cheese Slices at £1.27 each in Asda Walstanton, near Stoke-on-Trent, after reading about the prize draw online.

He said: “We’d been thinking about trading our car in for a newer model for a long time, so when I saw the Peter’s competition online, I thought I’d give it a go. I never really thought I’d win though!”

The prize draw launched in March and ended mid-May. To be in with a chance of winning, shoppers had to enter a code printed on their Premier Slice pack into a tailor-made website.

Alan was working his job as a paint sprayer for JCB when his wife Mel text him the good news.

He said: “I read the message over and over then raced home to quiz Mel about the phone call. We really enjoy pastries but this was the first time we had tried Peter’s slices. We were absolutely thrilled; I’m still amazed now.”

51-year-old Mel, an Alton Towers employee, said: “I thought I’d have some fun telling my friends, so I went to my line dancing lesson with a bag full of Peter’s and asked the class if they had tried them before. They thought it was a wind up when I said that Alan had won a car after buying Peter’s slices in Asda!

“We didn’t do much dancing that lesson because we sat down with a cuppa and shared all the slices instead.”

Alan and Mel caught the train to Caerphilly in south Wales to collect the prize.

They are selling their old car to buy a new moped for their 21-year-old son Shawn.

Peter’s Marketing Director Clare Morgan said: “We are delighted that Alan and Mel are so happy with their prize, and we don’t blame them for taking the scenic route in future!

“We’re pleased the prize draw encouraged new consumers to try our pastries and we’ve found new fans in Alan and Mel.”

The prize draw was part of a marketing strategy aimed at attracting more people to try the Peter’s range of pastries, aside from the old favourites like pies and corned beef pasties.

Geraint Isaac, South Wales Fleet Manager for Hyundai said: “Congratulations to Alan and Mel. We hope they enjoy driving their prize.”

Ms Morgan added: “Thank you to everyone that entered and we hope you keep your eyes peeled for the next big thing from Peter’s.”
