New Summerhouse for Cardiff Dogs thanks to Peter’s Slice of the Pie
The residents of Cardiff Dogs Home will be having fun in the sun this summer after winning a donation from the Peter’s Slice of the Pie Community Fund.
Friends of the Dogs, the volunteering group who help run the Home, won funding for a Summerhouse after completing the Peter’s Food online application form with a strong bid.
The Summerhouse was officially opened by Dr Rhys Jones, of BBC’s “Rhys Jones’s Wildlife Patrol”, Susie James, the Friends of the Dogs volunteer who successfully obtained the funding, and Peter’s Marketing Manager Claire Conway.
Dr Jones, who is a patron for Cardiff Dogs Home said: “The Summerhouse will give the dogs a floor to showcase their skills and attributes to potential owners in a more homely setting, giving the dogs a chance to show their personality, and helping people to make better informed decisions.
“Thanks to the funding from Peter’s, the dogs also have an additional outdoor area to enjoy for years to come.”
The Home takes over 1,200 dogs every year, with over 30 currently in residence.
Claire Conway, Marketing Manager at Peter’s said: “The Summerhouse will enrich the lives of the dogs and help them on their journey to a new home.
“The volunteers at Friends of the Dogs do a phenomenal amount of work to ensure every dog in residence has the most fulfilling time possible during their stay, and we’re thrilled to have been able to award this funding.”
The Peter’s Slice of the Pie Community Fund has given thousands of pounds to local clubs, charities and projects since the scheme started in 2013.
Last year, Peter’s managed to give several organisations a much-needed helping hand including a local primary school, a community choir group, a performing arts group and a referee society.
Volunteer Susie James said: “We were delighted when Peter’s told us the good news.
“The Summerhouse is a valuable addition to the new sensory garden we have built on site, where potential owners can see the dogs interact and receive advice on how best to care for their new pet.”
The Summerhouse was supplied, delivered and installed by Quality Garden Buildings in Pugh‘s Garden Centre, Morganstown.
