Love is all around for Wales’ favourite pie-maker
With reports that following a well-publicised rocky patch, Wales’s favourite darling bud and her Hollywood husband are set to put it all behind them and renew their wedding vows today (Feb 14th), a ‘Welsh lovers’ survey undertaken by Wales’ favourite pie-maker has ranked Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas as the celebrity couple people in Wales believe to have truly endured against all the odds.
Beating prolific pairings including Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Dylan Thomas and wife Caitlin, and Tom and Linda Jones, the Swansea star’s relationship has proven to have what it takes to last the distance in the love stakes.
Other categories in the survey – commissioned in celebration of Valentine’s Day by Caerphilly-based Peter’s Pies – included ‘Favourite Fictional Pairing’ and ‘Welsh Power Couple’.
With Catherine Zeta-Jones featuring again in the fictional category for her smouldering performance against Antonio Banderas in the Mask of Zorro; and others in the running including Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans (102 Dalmatians) and Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson (Remains of the Day), it was Barry’s best that came out on top as much-loved Gavin and Stacey clinched the title.
Having been thrust into the spotlight relatively recently for his record-breaking Real Madrid transfer, Gareth Bale was named one half of Wales’ top power couple, alongside partner Emma Rhys-Jones.
And in a bitter-sweet final category – Favourite ‘might have beens’ – Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson were named the couple most of those surveyed would have liked to have stayed together, just pipping Katherine Jenkins and former fiancé Gethin Jones to the post.
Speaking about the Valentine’s findings, Peter’s marketing director, Clare Morgan said:
“The Welsh are a very loving lot and we decided to have a bit of fun with this around Valentine’s Day with our own poll to find out which Welsh celebs are really rated in the love stakes.”
