Peters - Passion for flavour

February 2009 - Shane Williams - So Good You Could Eat Him

 Shane

A life-sized pie in the form of Shane Williams has been created by one of

Wales’ leading food manufactures ahead of the Wales England game this weekend.

The Shane pie was unveiled yesterday by Peter’s Food and Miss Wales 2008, Chloe Beth Morgan at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.  It is the work of one of the UK’s leading food sculptures, took two weeks to make and has been created using the exact ingredients of Peter’s and Brains steak and ale pie. It has been made completely edible.

James Osgood, marketing director for Peter’s Food explains the thinking behind the Shane pie. He said: “Shane is the World player of the Year and we thought we’d pay our own tribute to him by creating his form in a pie. It’s a first for us and we’re proud to do it and show our support for Shane, the rest of the squad, and the Toby Cockbain charity who will receive the proceeds when we auction it off afterwards.” The Peter’s and Brains steak and ale Pie forms part of the company’s Premier Range of products and is made out of the leanest cuts of steak and one of Wales’ favourite beers, Brains SA.  It was launched in September 2008 and has been flying off the shelves ever since.

James added: “The pie will tour Wales until the end of the RBS 6 nations to give as many people as possible the chance to meet Shane. As well being baked to support Wales, it will also raise money for the charity. Once the RBS 6 nations is over  the pie will be placed up for auction with all proceeds going to the Toby Lloyd Cockbain charity.”

The pie replica will be auctioned off on March 16 2009 at the charity’s Annual Gala. Brent Cockbain, who helped Wales win the Grand Slam in 2005, and his wife Kate set up the charity after their 13-month-old son Toby died of a brain tumour. The Annual Gala will see the Welsh Rugby Squad and guests bid for the sculpture with Peter’s on hand to present the final amount raised to the charity.

Peter’s has already raised over £17,000 this year for the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent after six of it’s staff completed the Three Peaks Challenge.

As an official supplier of the Millennium Stadium Peter’s pies and pasties will also be on sale throughout the RBS 6 nations games, feeding fans at the Millennium Stadium to give them the energy they need to cheer Wales to glory.
